Position: Center Director/Family Service Assistant

Location: Early Head Start-Kearney

Position Summary: The Center Director/Family Service Assistant is the link between families and the community. They are responsible for providing support, assistance, and coordination of program activities, communicating effectively with families and staff, and working closely with the teachers. The Center Director/Family Service Assistant is the primary contact of the Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit eligible families, including children with disabilities, monitor and maintain funded enrollment, replace open slots within 30 days of opening, and maintain a waitlist throughout the program year.
  • Ensure behavioral/emotional, hearing, vision, dental and physical screenings are completed within the required time frame.
  • Ensure health service mandates are completed, mental health observations occur, a Child Health History is complete, and track all follow-up information.
  • Ensure all staff is actively engaged in all program activities and model appropriate behavior.
  • Maintain good communication with all staff. Ensure communication systems are in place so staff receive agency and community correspondence.
  • Manage and oversee the center budget, ensure petty cash compliance, and approve purchases.
  • Ensure information is submitted by required deadlines
  • Provide information to families regarding community events, parent education classes, and other items of importance.
  • Actively refer families to resources available in the community.
  • Pursue partnerships with community resources.
  • Ensure constant supervision of all children at all times.
  • Provide supervision of staff. Conduct staff meetings, oversee day to day operation, maintain staff/child ratios, and placement of substitutes and volunteers, as needed.
  • Greet visitors, answer telephone, relay messages, and act as liaison with other offices in a professional manner.
  • Implement and maintain child/family filing system to ensure program compliance.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with families.
  • Be actively engaged in all Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.

Tasks and Duties:

  • Ensure all required materials are posted in the Center.
  • Participate in and coordinate the annual self-assessment and assist in completion of annual community assessments.
  • Pursue partnerships with community resources and ensure staff are making appropriate referrals, and completing documentation.
  • Submit paperwork in an organized, timely manner.
  • Ensure ongoing and end of year transition activities take place.
  • Attend initial and mid-year home visits along with the Teacher.
  • Assist and maintain a current center inventory.
  • Ensure playground and building maintenance.
  • Coordinate center usage for EHS events.
  • Administer medication when applicable.
  • Maintain adequate supply of agency forms.
  • Assist in the Toddler classroom as the Family Service Assistant, or during staff absences.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Family Services Certification, AA in Family Studies, Human Services, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in early childhood, health, social services or related field preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Model appropriate and professional behavior.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Schedule/Hours: 100% FTE; 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Typical hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with flexibility and occasional events after hours.

Pay Rate/Benefits: $18.61 per hour. Benefits provided include: paid holidays, PTO, short term disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program.
